After Best Condition EP I started working in a different direction. At the time I was working on my college degree in Film, concentrating in the area of computer animation. Cog and Flywheel was born from a series of robot characters I created as part of a senior project. At first Cog and Flywheel was a cartoon set to music but in the end I had little time for the visual aspect of the project, and ended up recording an album with the original concept in mind: Songs for Video Games. Here is the original tagline for the project:
Cog and Flywheel came to fruition after years of study and perseverance. We played video game after video game, trying in vain to understand that truly vexing question, where the hell is that last
heart piece? Although we never found that elusive heart piece, in our searches we came to realize that the finest music composed in our time, nay, all time, can be found in video games. Having acquired this knowledge, we set out emulate the sonorous flute of the general MIDI soundset, the beautiful burst of white noise that is the 4-bit snare drum.
